Electronic contact lens

Interesting concept of an electronic contact lense has been presented by Babak A. Parviz, an associate professor at the University of Washington. He published an article at IEEE Spectrum, where he discusses the progress of his team in creating this, probably the first ever, cyber device.

Primary goal for developing this device is to monitor the level of glucose in human blood. However more interesting application would be augment reality. By the way, did you noticed, that augment reality is gradually taking over the virtual reality. It is more practical and has more advantages of the virtual reality, which doesn’t allow, or at least is not convenient as, interaction with the real world.

Obviously implementation and development of augment reality is a lot more complicated.

Going back to this cyber device, there is a third application to it – extending the vision, for example by introducing IR sensors, which would allow night vision.
